Chado Tea Room is a tea house in Los Angeles, California. It is listed at Inside Japanese American National Museum, 369 1st St, Los Angeles, CA 90012, which places it among the local businesses of Los Angeles that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.
Hours at these spots often run into the evening, later than a typical coffee shop, and many stay open on weekends when demand is highest in Los Angeles. Seasonal and limited-time drink or dessert flavors are common, so a shop's current menu can differ from what is posted online; checking recent photos or calling ahead helps. Some locations in California are dessert-only with no seating, meant for takeout, while others have cafe-style seating for staying a while. Straws for bubble tea are typically wide to accommodate the toppings, and are provided automatically unless you ask for a regular one. Loyalty apps and stamp cards are common at chain locations, and ordering ahead through an app can shorten a wait considerably at busy locations during peak after-school and after-dinner hours.
Hours are published for 6 days a week. Typical hours are 11 amβ6 pm. It is closed on Monday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Chado Tea Room at (213) 258-2531; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, chadotearoom.com.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.3 out of 5 from 218 reviews, which is a strong result for a tea house in Los Angeles and suggests consistent service.
Los Angeles is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Los Angeles follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

The place is absolutely empty and the waiter has yet to return. The strawberries were rotten, the service was slow, the tea was not the best. I fee like I got bamboozled. The scone is more like a burnt Pillsberry biscuit. The tea tasted like it was one tea bag for the whole pot. 10/10 would not recommend

Overall, a very lovely experience, though a bit overpriced. The presentation of the food was excellent, though the taste itself was nothing to write home about if Iβm being completely honest. I think itβs more about the vibes and ambience than anything else. Blanca was very cordial and attentive throughout the whole process, so Iβd say the service was good.

If I could give 0 stars for ambiance, I would. I expected a tea house in the Japanese heritage museum to have more Japanese influence in the decor and ambiance. Instead it felt like a kitschy English style tea room. 1 star for quality of food, 2 stars given that it was clean and sanitary, and the service was fine and cordialβ¦ but given that this is a tea house, I would expect them to know how to properly brew tea at minimum. The tea was under brewed for both my and my husbandβs teasβ the Monkey picked oolong and Gyokuro. Their βmost popularβ tea as stated on the menu, the St. Marc, tasted like cough syrup rather than a βdanceβ between flowers as the menu suggests. The menu sounded so promisingly but execution fell flat. I could make better tea sandwiches at home. PASS, unbelievable that they could charge $30+ per person for this quality of offering.

This is an EXPERIENCE. Tea. Chocolates. Finger sandwiches. I was living like Mrs. Doubtfire AND loving EVERY minute of it. The passionfruit oolong tea was the best choice for me because I wanted 2 pots of it. And... they give you a parting gift (tea cup & saucer) when you order the Birthday service!

Such a wonderful place for afternoon tea! The venue is absolutely gorgeous with some seating outside in a nice area away from the city noise. The food was delicious. Everything was fresh and yummy. I especially enjoyed the chocolates. And, of course, the tea was amazing: flavorful, fragrant, and plenty. They have a great selection of teas, including herbal / decaf ones. I loved the fact they were pretty accommodating when we requested sandwiches to be swapped to vegetarian ones. Sandwiches were super delicious too!
